About Us

Pulham Primary School is a Voluntary Controlled Church of England School, founded in 1852 and located on the outskirts of Pulham Market.
It serves mainly the villages of Pulham Market, Pulham St Mary and the surrounding villages. In addition we welcome children from further afield, providing there are sufficient places.
The Christian, caring ethos of our school is vital to the school’s identity as well as the personal and spiritual needs of every learner in school.

We use the Characteristics of Learning as the basis of our curriculum which includes:
 playing and explaining – engagement
 active learning – motivation
 creative and thinking critically - thinking

This involves, for example, us using the enquiry approach across the curriculum – allowing the children to further their understanding and knowledge through thinking of their own lines of enquiry or questions they want to find the answers to.

To further the children’s independence and ownership of their learning we also use the Challenge System – whereby children are not given differentiated work by the teachers but instead the children decide for themselves, from a range of challenges, which is best suited to their current level of skills and knowledge.

We also encourage learning outside and are a Forest School, we also have our own allotment, and chickens which are situated in our meadow – the Dade Meadow - along with our beautiful Iceni round house which the children helped to build.

We take the children on trips outside of school to further their knowledge of topics they are studying and to widen their aspirations and understanding of Britain as a multi-cultural society.
Some of the visits we have made are to: The Tower of London, The Science Museum, The Natural History Museum, the Norfolk Show, Norwich castle, Framlingham Castle, the Tide and Time Museum, Southwold, Great Cressingham Victorian School, West Stow Anglo Saxon Village, Norwich Cathedral, Caistor Roman Camp. We also take our Year 6s on a week-long residential to Derbyshire.

We have a Silver Arts Award and have an Arts Week every year and we involve the children in different arts projects throughout the year.

We are also a Heritage School a status which we were awarded due to the large scale history project we ran in 2016/17 when we explored our local heritage through archaeological workshops and a dig in our meadow, we visited local historical sites and built our Iceni House.

We also believe very strongly in children being active and ensure that all pupils have the correct amount of PE lessons every week. We use our Sports Premium to provide children with as many opportunities as possible to try out new sports, get involved in after schools clubs and take part in local competitions.
Pulham Primary School is a school where pupils are valued as individuals – (Ofsted March 2017)
